“Pastor Dan is on vacation this week, and Rev. Kim Strutt is filling in as Guest Muser!”

Friday, February 10, 2012

The Rev.Dr. Eric Kimball (Kim) Strutt is part of our Pastoral Team.

Kim was born in Hollywood, grew up in North Hollywood, graduated from UCLA , and Fuller Seminary . . he and his family live in Burbank.  Kim has an extensive background in ministry.  In recent years he was our Parish Associate Pastor (2002-2006) prior to serving as the Pastor of Faith Presbyterian Church of Valley Village.

Since June of 2011 Kim has been assisting Pastor Dan with some special projects while helping to provide pastoral support in other areas as needed.

“Thankful for Life Together!”

This week, thinking of ways I have been blessed by the people & ministry of this congregation, I was drawn again to a statement of the Apostle Paul, “I thank my God every time I remember you.  In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until day of Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 1:3-.9)

I am now, and will always be, profoundly grateful to God for the Church of Jesus Christ and, in a special way, for this Hollywood congregation of God’s People.

When I was a pre-Christian young adult . . I was visited by a couple of people from this church who asked me a question, “Do you know that God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life?” That was something I had NEVER considered.

My new friends helped me to answer the question when they opened the Bible and showed me how God, in Christ, has made it possible for us to know and experience His love and plan for our lives.

As we prayed together, I invited Christ into my life. In the days that followed, as I grew in my relationship with the Lord, I noticed that my actions and attitudes were beginning to change . . God was doing a new thing in my life . . and I wanted to share that Good News with those who didn’t yet know Christ.

In these weeks ahead, as we move toward the celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus, we have a wonderful opportunity to reach out to friends and neighbors . . and invite them to join us.  Pray for those you might invite, give them a call, put them in your car and bring them with you.  God wants to use you and me to help transform the lives of others!

The chorus of one of my favorite praise songs goes,

“We are the Family of God, Yes we are the Family of God; and He’s brought us together to be one in Him, that we might bring light to the world”.

God bless you as you let your light shine!

Philippians 1:9-11

And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God.

Sermon Series: Real Life Community
Lesslie Newbigin once said, “It is surely a fact of inexhaustible significancethat what our Lord left behind Him was not a book, nor a creed, nor a system of thought, nor a rule of life…but a visible community.”
But what might that look like in real life?
