Have you considered a Vacation with a Purpose?
Want to do something different for vacation?
Are you interested in serving those in need through a cross-cultural outreach? Do you want to build community with like-minded people eager to “give back” like you are?
Then a Short Short Term Missions Trip is a perfect way for you to MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
Hollywood Presbyterian Church values the importance of sending our members on short term mission trips throughout the world. These cross-cultural outreaches offer the person going an opportunity to experience the relevance of the Gospel in another culture, to serve the poor and needy first hand, and to be refreshed and challenged in one's own relationship with the Lord. God is passionate about making Himself known to people of all tongues, tribes, and nations, and we at
HPC consider it a privilege to be part of communicating His Love and sharing the blessings He has given us to people in
Hollywood and throughout the world.
Short Term Missions Committee (STMC)
The STMC is responsible for direction and management of short term missions for the church. It encourages and recruits members of the congregation and connects them with local or overseas ministries for a few weeks to several months. It appoints team leaders; trains for cross cultural ministry; and encourages preparation, team building, and prayer partners. All short term missions are funded with non-budgeted, non-operating, designated funds that are raised on a per need basis by each team.
STM is not part of the general church budget. The Committee meets on a seasonal basis as needed. Presentations are given by all short term teams after their return.
In 2010, FPCH sent Short Term teams:
1, Albania- led by Ralph Obrist, a group of 13 went to Erseke, Albania to minister with the Stoschers. They helped with the camping program, did roofing, helped in the kitchen and did what they could to relate to the locals. This was the church’s fifth time to field a team to Albania
2. Larry Beckler and his daughter were part of a team going to Northern Iraq to teach ESL. They were not able to do that but managed to make many friends doing other things, and look forward to going again.
3. Jack Hardgrave and Dick Leyda went to a refugee camp for Rwandans in Malawi. and had the privilege of teaching pastors through translators.
