Elder/Deacon After Service Prayer

After every service at FPCH, our Pastors, Elders, and Deacons are available and eager to pray with you for personal needs, prayer for others, and for spiritual leading. These members are all faithfully committed to confidentiality, and to caring. They can also help direct you to other help we may be able to offer, counseling or services. We encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity for one-on-one prayer.

Spirit Filled Prayer

"Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving." (Col. 4:2)

Let us build a temple of prayer for the Lord our God. Our church shall be a temple of prayer where all God's people come to honor Him and seek His glory. "... for the glory of the Lord filled His temple." 1 Kings 8:11b

Together we will explore different expressions of worship, and new prayer paths allowing the spirit to direct our hearts toward God.

Spirit Filled Prayer is held the third Saturday of every month, from 8:30-10:30 am in Wylie Chapel. Upcoming Dates:

  • February 16
  • March 15
  • April 19
  • May 17

All Church Praise and Prayer

The church comes together quarterly for a time of praise and prayer for the ministries and future of our church and our community. The events are held on Wednesday evening in Mears Center. Refreshments begin at 6:30 pm with praise and prayer starting at 7 pm. We sit at round tables to facilitate group prayer.

Dates for 2008 are:

  • January 30
  • April 10
  • September 10
  • November 19

Weekly Intercessory Prayer

Every Tuesday evening we gather to pray for our church, our country, personal prayer requests and each other. We meet from 7:00 pm-8:30 pm in The Christian Education Lounge.

All are welcome; this prayer group has many regular attendees. You do not need to sign up or call ahead, feel free to just show up and join in this open prayer group.

Prayer Vigils

Three to four times a year we have Prayer Vigils in Wylie Chapel lasting 24-36 hours. We ask people to sign up and commit to a certain time to be here, to cover the days in prayer for a particular purpose. All are welcome.

Our Easter Prayer Vigil will be held from 9 pm on Good Friday, March 21 to 9 pm Saturday, March 22.

Regional Prayer Groups & Meetings

Pastor Scott Erdman hosts many meetings of city-wide and regional prayer leaders.

Our Vision for Prayer Ministry

It is the vision of the Prayer Ministry to build a house of prayer for the Lord (Isaiah 56:7) at First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood. We endeavor to unite God’s people in corporate prayer in order to worship the Lord our God, to encourage the hearts of God’s people, and to discern the will of God for His church and for our lives.
God has created us to be relational beings—to have an intimate relationship with Him, and with others.  While our prayer time alone is very important, corporate prayer creates a different dynamic where God’s power is released through the Holy Spirit. Nowhere is this better illustrated than in the book of Acts (Acts 12:5-17) as the early church gathered to pray earnestly for Peter.  Corporate prayer is not only necessary, but it is also a biblical mandate. Prayers are for God’s people to live in peace and godliness.
In corporate prayer we gather to honor God through worship. The act of worship is an offering to God our Savior. Only He is worthy of honor and praise. In John 4:23, 24 our Lord Jesus said, “…the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.”  As God’s people worship God, the Spirit prepares our hearts to enter into a time of reflection and prayer.  Worship comes from reverent hearts. A careful search of Scriptures will reveal that the men and women used powerfully by God had a reverent, worshipful, and obedient heart.
Through corporate prayer the hearts of God’s people are encouraged. As our hearts slowly surrender to God, there is a gentle touch of peace and hope.  This is the most amazing result of prayer (see Philippians 4:7). God’s people can enter into prayer completely burdened, and at the end of the prayer time, God’s peace enters into those hearts and God’s people can leave with a renewed hope. Our faith is strengthened when we quiet our hearts and allow God to minister to us through the Holy Spirit.  “And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God’s will.” Romans 8:27
In order to know God’s will for his church and our lives, we must seek spiritual discernment. Diligent, fervent prayer brings about spiritual discernment.  It is a constant surrender of our own will and the seeking of God’s will through prayer. The apostle Paul writes to the Colossians, “…we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding” Colossians 1:9  In the same way, we individually and corporately seek to know what God’s will is for His church,  and what our role may be in that, and what God’s will is for our lives that we may be obedient to live according to His purpose for us.
