“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations…” Matthew 28:19
As the group made their way across the broken concrete that made up the street, they noticed a tremendous change in the landscape as they neared their destination. They stepped off of the cement onto a 4 x 8 piece of plywood. In front of them stretched a sea of wood pieces, sheets of tin and even cardboard that made up the ground of the shantytown they were entering. With each step, the ground shifted a bit under the weight of each person, making it feel like they were walking on rubber. This was due to layer upon layer of unstable debris that was under the surface. Regardless of the deplorable living conditions that shouted at them as they advanced, the residents, seemingly oblivious to their surroundings, were overjoyed to see the visitors. Gifts of fresh fruit and chocolate were distributed, a puppet show was presented, and hugs were given all around. After several hours of building new relationships, it was time for the visitors to leave. They were delighted at how receptive their audience had been to the Gospel, but saddened by the plight of those gracious and loving people. While making their departure, it occurred to all of them that no truer words have even been penned: "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.” Luke 10:2
The story above is just one of many incredible encounters experienced by our short-term missionaries who, over the years, have “gone into the world” to further the Gospel. This year we are blessed to have ten teams going out (one has already taken place) and we would like to include you in this experience. On behalf of the Short Term Missions Committee, we would like to ask for your prayer support and financial assistance for our missionaries.
The financial support of these individuals is not part of the church budget so many of our participants rely on the donations of our church family. If there is a team or specific team member you would like to support, please fill out the attached form and return it to the Missions Office at least two weeks prior to the date of the trip. If you are unable to contribute financially, please don’t underestimate the power of being a prayer partner. Each of these teams needs to be covered with a blanket of prayer, not only during their time in the field but in the weeks and months leading up to the trip.
